Impressions of Bern

Here's a view across Bern from the roof of the University's Institut für Exakte Wissenschaften. In the background you can see Finsteraarhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The dome belongs to the Bundeshaus (federal government):

Within the oldest part you find the Kramgasse and a former city gate called Zytgloggeturm:

The center of Berne is surrounded by a loop of the Aare river. On warm summer days it is a special pleasure to jump into the river which is flowing at a speed of about 12 km/h in the center and to float downstream. The picture below was taken on August 18, 2002, when the temperature of the Aare was 17-18 degrees of Celsius (cool!). The swimmer in front is my wife, Renate:

About 30 kilometers to the south of the city of Berne are several nice mountains about 2200 meters high such as the Stockhorn, the Gantrisch and the Ochsen. Here's the Gantrisch:
